ISO 27001 certification
ISO 27001, built on what you've already proved
If you have SOC 2, much of the evidence carries over. Map it once and certify without starting again.
What ISO 27001 is
ISO/IEC 27001 is an international standard for an information security management system: an ISMS. Unlike SOC 2, it is a genuine certification: you are certified by an accredited body and hold a certificate valid for three years, with surveillance audits in between.
It requires a defined scope, a risk assessment methodology, a Statement of Applicability recording which Annex A controls apply and why, and evidence that the management system operates, including management review and internal audit.
It is the standard European and international buyers most often ask for.
Who needs ISO 27001
You're selling into Europe, the UK, or Asia-Pacific and buyers are asking for it rather than SOC 2. Or you want a certificate you can display rather than a report shared under NDA.
How TrustLynce helps with ISO 27001
Statement of Applicability
Record which Annex A controls apply, which don't, and why: the document auditors examine first.
Risk-driven controls
ISO expects controls to follow from a risk assessment. Risks link to the controls treating them.
Reuse SOC 2 evidence
Where the two standards ask for the same thing, the evidence is collected once.
Management system evidence
Internal audit records, management review minutes, and corrective actions: the parts teams most often miss.
ISO 27001 questions
SOC 2 is a report on your controls, mostly for US buyers. ISO 27001 is a certification of a management system, recognized internationally. Many companies eventually hold both.
Only if your buyers ask for both. Start with what your market requires.
Substantial, both cover access control, change management, and incident response. Where the two ask for the same thing, the evidence is collected once.
A catalog of security controls. You are not required to implement all of them, but you must record in the Statement of Applicability which apply and justify exclusions.
Three years, with annual surveillance audits. Continuous monitoring matters more here than for a point-in-time report.
